Llamkay Huasi

Llamkay Huasi, (“Working Home” in Quechua) was organized by Víctor Inga, Elmer Tadeo, Lucia Asto, Donato Quispe, Maria lazo.

This weavers' group works with three looms in a room in the home of Victor Inga.  The group is proud of their new sign which proclaims to passersby: “Llamkay Huasi: Fair Trade Weavers”. The group works with alpaca fiber and with wool, both of which are produced in their own area. They dye the fiber themselves and weave their creations in their room in Victor's house. Accumulating sufficient capital to make major purchases was at first an immense challenge, but with access to Bridge of Hope’s revolving credit fund, they have been able to step out of their initial financial limitations. Today, their creations include colorful rugs, bedspreads, pillow covers, and shawls, all of which use the warm tones of natural dyes.
