Manos del Rosario

For over 8 years the six women of Manos del Rosario (Hands of the Rosary) worked for an institution that didn't follow the principles of Fair Trade. Their craftsmanship was exploited by the institution’s expectation of large quantities for low prices. They decided to form an independent group and sell their embroidered arpillerías to Indian markets in Lima and Pisco (southern Peru). However, the low costs they received from the stores did not bring much additional profit.

Their participation with Bridge of Hope was at first, apprehensive, thinking that Bridge of Hope too, might exploit them. But with time, they have understood that Fair Trade seeks to help individual and group development. They live and work in the community of AA.HH. Las Brisas in San Juan de Miraflores, and are in the continual process of group growth and improving self-esteem.
